Question:
Do I need a letter from my PCP for TT?
Aetna has contacted my surgeon for more information before they approve my abdominoplasty. They want documentation from my PCP concerning the rashes, length of treatment and type of treatment. My question is this: should I ask my PCP to write me a letter along with his office notes? If so, does anyone have a copy of a letter from you PCP to surgeon or insurance company requesting TT? Thanks a bunch - — Margaret G. (posted on September 23, 2003)

Honey, I don't have any experience with this but in my oppinion, I would
get my PCP to write a letter along with the notes. I'm sure you'll get an
answer from someone more experienced soon. Good Luck!

I went to a different dr to have my surgery. My pcp is a normal doc a gp
only. But yes, I went to the doc who did the bypass, to write me a letter,
and I also had the doc document EVERYTIME I SEEN HIM ALL OF THE PROBLEMS I
WAS HAVING... Like the rash under the fold of skin and also the back pain.
I also got copies of the doctor records and highlighted all of the notes
that where in there about the rashes and back pain and also wrote a letter
along w/ my appeal to the insurance company because they declined my first
attempt to have a panni. I think what won my appeal was that when you have
a rash under the fold of skin, THAT IS WHAT IS CONSIDERED AN OPEN SOAR AND
YOU CANT GO INTO ANY PUBLIC POOL OR HOT TUB because of it. I MADE SURE THAT
POINT WAS ESTABLISHED. They had the nerve to say that the panni was
considered cosmetic and not a nessecity. Good luck, the more personal you
go in your letter to the insurance company, the more likely you will be
approved...
