Question:
13 month post op gaining weight with exercise?????
I'm a 13 month RNY bypass Post op. I started exercising 6 days a week about a month ago religiously and have now went from 135 to 142 lbs. I do 30 minutes on the eliptical trainer and 200 crunches everyday, then 3 times a week I do weight training also on top of the eliptical training and crunches. I'm not losing inches but I've gained 7 lbs. Is this normal? I'm eating 6 times a day averaging about 1000 calories a day with 90-100 grams of protein. I don't want to gain any more! Can someone give me some advise on this? Thanks! — Kelly T. (posted on July 21, 2003)

It sounds like you are gaining muscle, not fat. Gaining muscle will
eventually help you lose more weight. If you are still losing inches...that
is a good sign that you are gaining muscle.

I think that I would only be concerned if I were getting bigger-for
instance you had to go up a clothing size. Otherwise, I would attribute the
gain to muscle. The increase in muscle will increase your metabolic rate,
making it easier to maintain your weight loss. Shelley

kelly, muscle weighs more than fat. so as long as you look good and you are
getting firm...you are doing awesome,,,increase your water and you should
be great.
