Question:
I did not dump on a Glucose Tolerance Test- 75g of sugar! Why?
I took a Glucose Tolerance Test this morning and had no dumping symptoms at all. I am not transected. I sometimes hear gurgling in my lower stomach. Could it be because of a staple line disruption? I am 12 months out, and recently Diagnosed with PCOS. — blank first name B. (posted on March 15, 2003)

Do you know your results? I suspect that if your a RNYer it will show
severe diabetes. The intestinal change will dump raw sugar into the
intestine, and blood sugar will skyrocket and dive after surgery. The
dumping many get is the blood sugar bounce and normal for a post op. This
issue has come up elsehere and I am curious about your results. I THOUGHT
this test wasnt appropiate for a post op?

Thirty percent of RNYers never dump. Of those who do, some stop dumping at
some point as long-term post-ops. Some can dump years afterwards. I
wouldn't think a staple line disruption would have anything to do with it,
as dumping is a function of missing small intestines, not pouch size. Just
my guesses!

I am 6 months post-op and have never dumped, though I have definitely
pushed the limits! As for the gurgling- my pouch gets all happy when it is
fed. Sometimes it can last for hours and get REALLY loud. It has nothing do
to with a disruption, so don't fret. Its just a combination of the food
trying to break down and it leaving the pouch. You are perfectly
normal!....Karen (lap rny- 09/20/02- down 118 pounds!)

I agree with Bob....I didn't think this test would be appropriate for a
post-op either. I wouldn't do it for fear of dumping!
