Question:
Quantitative D Dimer is high

I wanted to know if anyone has heard of the Quantitative D Dimer test they say that's how they determine if you have a pulmonary embolism...Well normal test results are (0-240) and mine is 303 my Dr. did a cat scan and chest x-ray and there was no sign of a blood clot but told me to take baby asprin. My question is, should i be concerned about this i haven't had my surgery yet but it's coming closer i know i should ask my Surgeon just wanted to know if anyone else had a high clotting factor and if so what was done? And did you have any complications during or after surgery? I am a mother of four children and my twin son is only five and he told me a minute ago "Mommy if you fall in a hole i'm going with you cause i will miss you" :( made me tear...he meant if i get buried...He overheard my conversation wich i was not aware of the last thing i want to do is scare them. I just don't want to worry and sure the heck don't want to leave my babies i'm all they have.    — skyeyez26 (posted on January 16, 2003)

I don't want to alarm you, but I would ask my Dr if he has done all he can to determine there is no blood clot anywhere around your heart or lungs. I have heard of them using doplar (like sonograms) on legs. Not sure about the lung area though. I would also ask about MRI's would they show anything? If I were you I would like to know for sure. If it were in your lungs you would be having trouble breathing. The reason I responded to you is that after my hysterectomy in 1994 I developed a blood clot in my left leg that extended through my vein in my groin to my knee. They found out how big the clot was by using the doplar scan. Use your own judgement. But I would ask my Dr to explain your situation to you in more detail. That what they get paid for. I will keep you in my prayrs. Take care.

a d dimer test is used for many things, its a test thats indictive of clotting factors, such as a pt/inr test, you may fall into the high end of the scale like you do, but it may be your your *norm*, and the asprin is just preventative.. Do you take coumadin or anything like that?
