Question:
Is anyone else out there Long Term Post op and afraid
I am 6.5 months post op and I find myself afraid to eat. Now my mind tells me that I need to , but emotionally I am afraid to eat. Im afraid if I start eating normal portions taht I am going to gain the 100lbs that I have lost. Anyone else out there feel the same? Is this just a phase? — Diane Rhoads (posted on September 9, 2002)

hiya
i understand what your head is saying but your stomach aka pouch cannot
hold the "normal portion" size...you probably can't hold more
than 6-8oz at a time, of course liquidy foods (soup) will digest faster and
possibly leave you feeling hungry.
there is a difference between head and stomach hunger, try to listen to
your body. i have a copy of the Cottage Cheese Test if you would like it,
it is a tool to measure the size of your pouch.
basically, you should eat no more than the size of a dessert plate at each
meal. and when you snack, keep it to protein packed foods like cheese,
cottage cheese, sliced lunch meats (not processed ones like bologna), or
protein shakes...the dense fiber of protein foods take longer to digest and
leave you feeling full longer.
and drink drink drink!!!! that helps too.
feel free to emaill me if you have any questions.

Yes. At 8 yrs, I still know I have a fatal disease. I maintain the
machanics, and keep doing what worked for me. So far, so good, but I do
not delude myself that I can pretend to be normal and still be successful.
Not normal, now, never was, never will be.
