Question:
Has anyone dealt with Highmark BlueCross/BlueShield ??
I've heard that some ins. companies give an answer for this type of surgery in a matter of a couple of days, its been alittle over a month and I'm still waiting. When I call they just tell me its before the review board.Does anyone know how long the "review board" takes? And has anyone ever used Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield? Please let me know...I am really excited about getting the surgery...Thanks, Gail — Gail W. (posted on August 14, 2002)

I had them and it took 1 week for approval. Perhaps it is taking longer
because of the popularity of the surgery? Why not ask what's taking so
long and see if you can speak with someone other than customer service?
Good luck and God Bless!

I used Blue Cross/Blue Shield but not Highmark and I was approved within
three weeks. With it being summer they might be backlogged. I will keep my
fingers crossed for you

I had my BPD no DS on June 3, 2002.. Highmark has paid every dime of my
surgery costs, and for every visit with my surgeon. They would not pay for
the nutritionist visit or the psych evaluation. We submitted first for the
lap band.. they took 30 business days to deny me, then another 17 business
days to deny the appeal. We submitted for the BPD, I was approved in 6
business days and had surgery 2 weeks later. The reps really are very
nice, at least from my experience, but medical review is S L O W. More
details in my profile. I wish you all the best! ~Peace

Gail,
What was your final experience with Highmark BC/BS? I have Highmark BC/BS
and my predetermination case was just filed Friday, Feb. 14th; I'd be
anxious to know your experience. I'm having the open-RNY.
