Question:
How soon after surgery can a stricture show? I'm 12 days Post-op

I'm 12 days post op and I'm on soft foods til Wed. I can keep down protein drinks, but with other foods I take 3 bites and it comes back up within 3 min of eating it. Should I be able to eat more? It's frustrating. Should I be asking my doctor to check for a stricture already? Or is this normal? I'm Lap Rny, eating mashed potatoes, bean soup, creamed pot. soup, and that's about it. ugh...    — Tabatha M. (posted on June 16, 2002)

My first stricture started at 11 days. I could get things down fine till day 11 then I began to throw up pureed food, then a few days later liquids, then progressing to saliva. I'm a stricture queen!! Going this week for my 6th dialation.

Like Lisa, I had my first stricture show up on the 11th day. I went in to the doctor on day 10 and had a perfect checkup. Then the next day, things started going downhill. Pureed foods coming back up, etc. etc. until, like Lisa, I couldn't even process my own saliva. So I had my first dilation done with another scheduled in 4 weeks. However, I think it's beginning to close up again already, so I will probably move that up.
