Question:
Has anyone had high blood pressure after surgery?

My blood pressure before surgery (on 5/30) was always normal. But since then it's been climbing higher and higher. Went to my PCP today...was 144/110!!! So I lose 30 lbs and get put ON blood pressure meds??? Any advice out there?    — Kimberly H. (posted on June 10, 2002)

Hi. My blood pressure was always normal, and it is still within normal regions, but it is climbing which scares me as well. My surgery was the day after yours (MAY 31). I drink 70 oz a day, yet my surgeon says i am dehydrated? But he said this can be a cause of this. ANd i think i am still a little apprehensive from the surgery, i am 22 and nervous, so i think this has a little to do with it. Sorry i was not much help, but you are not alone. it will probably go away though, if not, talk to your surgeon. goodluck to you!

I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back. My Blood pressure was always a little on the low side then I had 3 high readings in a row, where they were climbing each time. My doctor did some blood tests and they were all great, so he thinks it is stress related, but he put me on medication for it..like you I felt it was crazy.I lost 78 lbs and NOW have to be put on Medication for high blood pressure!? I took the medication for 2 days..then stopped because I felt that if it was stress related and I could help myself rather than use the medication it would be better, afterall I went back 2 weeks later and it was back to normal! with NO medication..that was what I thought would happen,..I was afraid that If It came down and I was on the medication he would not let me go off it. Now I see I do not need it. just need better stress management! Oh, I did not think that I was under any great amount of stress at the time, just normal everday stress..but sometimes that can get to you. I would have him check your blood work first ,then talk to him about stress and how to control that before taking medication if that is your preference.

I had the same thing happen to me in the early months. It did go down on it's own and I have not had a problem since.
