Question:
Is Sweet n Low or Nutra Sweet OK?

I have read many entries about using splenda and so forth, but I was wondering, is sweet n low and nutra sweet not recommended, since I never see it listed as one of those used post op. My surgery is in 5 days and would really like some suggestions as to what to buy now. Also, anything else you would recommend for post op diet would be greatly appreciated. Michelle, My doctor told me to use only Equal. The other stuff is two sweet. You will be sick from it . I am post-op almost a year. I now find that if there is no equal a little bit of Sweet-n-low will not hurt. I don't use the entire package. I hope this helps. JoAnn

Try Splenda... it's the only natural one. Nutrasweet, Equal etc. are all manufactured chemical products, whereas Splenda is made from sugar. My surgeon recommended it to us. Also it tastes better, not too sweet, yet not fake either... kind of like real sugar!!!

I'm with the last post on the Splenda. It's the only one I'll use. There is no after taste unless you use to much. I use it for sweeting diet pop and it also takes much of the fizz out of it so it does'nt bother the pouch. It's good to use in baking as well. Try some!

I think they are probably all ok, use which ever one you like the best, personally I have heard good things about splenda, but to me it tastes awful and has an aftertaste.

Hi Michelle, Different surgeons have different opinions. I have read that Nutri-Sweet is ok, but may stimulate appetite!

Michelle,I personally would use the Splenda since it is natural and not a chemically made sweetner,I recently made some berry jam using the splenda and I was pleasantly surprised how well it tasted and how fresh it tasted almost like eating the berries, the judges at our county fair liked it also,I got a blue ribbon on it!!!!

I had a DS and I don't need to worry about dumping but the wasted calories. I've used the splenda only because I can bake with it. The others don't do well with baking.(in my opinion)The only time I use the others is in prepackaged foods. Snackwells now uses splenda in their cookies.
