Question:
How many grams of carbs should I have each day?
I'm three years post-op. I'm still trying to lose that last 30lbs. to reach my goal weight. I've never counted carbs and managed to lose over 100lbs. I've gotten bask to basics, but. I'm wondering how many grams of carbs should I have a day. A post-op buddy recommned 100...but that seems like a lot. Low carb diet books say 30, but that seems low. What do you folks say??? — [Anonymous] (posted on July 18, 2001)

During the chat with Dr. Goodman on this site last night his answer to that
question was 50 grams carbs and 20 grams fat. Hope this helps!!!

I think the question was about to CARBS, not eating in general.
After the initial weight loss, it's more a matter of "what" we
eat than "how much" we eat. You can eat very small quantities;
but,
if you are eating too many carbs, you won't lose weight. I
believe the max carbs per day for someone trying to lose weight is
50-60 grams.

I don't think so!!!! It was eating all the carbs I wanted that
got me up to 350lbs. If you can eat all the pasta, bread, cakes,
and cookies that you want and still lose weight, then good luck to
you. That just isn't true for most people. Gosh, how I wish it was!
