Question:
I have painful gas and feels like the puoch is broken?
I can't sleep right now, and all day I have felt nothing but pain in my stomach. I've been burping and passing gas all day, it is very painful and won't stop I have had nothing but liquids today hoping it will ease, it hurts so much that I worry that my pouch is broken. Can anyone help? Also, I'm 12 days post-op and had a RNY. Thanks, Deya. — Deyanira A. (posted on May 13, 2001)

I had a similar experience in my second week post-op. I was so miserable
that I could barely move. I think I stayed in bed litterally all weekend.
I tried gas-x and it just didn't seem to help fast enough. I was in tears
from the pain and I called my doctor in tears on Sunday night, just unable
to stand it anymore. He was very patient with me, and suggested that i get
out of bed and walk around as much as possible, and continue with the gas-x
as labeld.. and to call his office Monday morning for an appointment. The
walking around really helped the most, I think. I just remeber that I was
completely miserable and by morning (after walking around in circles in my
bedroom several times that night) i felt a ton better! Still, I remember
having had some milder gas pains for a couple more days and by Wednesday I
was feeling really good again. Anyway, my suggestion is to try walking
around as much as possible eventhough it's really hard and ya can barely
stand up straight. Best of luck to you! and remember... this gas, too,
shall pass! :)

Deya,
The gas you are feeling is most likely a result from the anesthesia. Your
best bet(I know it's hard)is to move around. You will help the gas to
release itself and not stay trapped. Nothing worse than a trapped gas
pocket. The more you move the quicker it will leave your body. As
embarrasing as it is be thankful it's releasing itself in any form.
Congrats on your surgery and best wishes.
