Question:
Has any one permanetly stopped losing weight at 6 months post-op?
I am almost 6 months post-op. I have lost 60 pounds so far. It has been very slow for me. I was 260 pre-op and I am now 198-200. I have been stuck at this weight for almost 2 months. I get at least 70 Grams of protein every day with supplements, I almost never eat over 1000 calories, and I try to drink all of my water. What am I doing wrong? Should I consider asking my surgeon for a revision? I am happy with the 60 pounds that I lost but I feel like I am doing something wrong. I can eat a lot. It is not a lot by "normal" people's standards. But, it is definitly more than one or two bites like I read others say they eat. Any advice is greatly appreciated. — Brenda B. I know exactly where you are coming from, I am 1 year post-op with an open
proximal-rny. My starting weight was 256lbs and at 6 months I had lost
60lbs and could eat alot more than what everyone else said. Well, I've
been hanging in there for the last 6 months and I've lost another 20lbs,
however I am barely losing a pound every two weeks now. I have upped my
exercise and am trying everything since I still have about 50-60 more to
lose. I don't have any advice, just wanted to let you know that you're not
alone..

Are you watching how many carbs you are eating?? I know that when my carbs
go over 50 a day, I don't lose any weight. It is just like treading water.
Just thought I would mention it. God bless!

I was on a five month plateau. Even though I was doing what the
nutritionist told me to, it didn't work for me. Anita Wilson Taylor has
and excellent plateau Buster on her web sight. This has helped me. I know
Denise B. also used it. Basically, you drink liquid for breakfast. I
drink Protein Revolution, (from GNC) or Carb Solutions from Meijers, mixed
in Hot Coffee. Tastes like a cappucino. First I wake up in the morning and
have to full glasses of water, I never drink real cold water just my
choice. Then I have a cup or two of coffee,,They thing is hydration here.
Then I have my protein drink. Then I have nothing for 1 hour. At noon I
measure. I have 2ounces of chicken or fish, 1ounce of broccoli, spinach,
and 1ounce of noodles or potatoes. Wait one hour, then drink drink drink
water. At supper you repeat the lunch.. wait one hour and then drink drink
drink. Nothing after supper except your water. If you do this for two
weeks. You will help your stomach to shrink back, and you will get off that
plateau. After the two weeks, keep measuring your food. 1/2 cup meals
three times a day, not over 60 grams of protein. When you are fresh out
of surgery you need more protein for healing , and six small meals a day.
Now that you are healed you do not. You don't want to stretch out your
pouch now. I started at 269 , went to 193 and sat, I was very discouraged.
This saved me. I am now approaching the 100 lb. mark. I hope this helps.
If your plateau, is over a month, you need to seriously look at your
eating. Grazing keeps in very easy. Carin

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I went back to chewable
vitamins. One for breakfast one for supper after food. I also chew about
5 or six sugar free tums through out the day. for the calcium. My labs
are absolutely excellent. In fact my protein and b-12 were on the high
side. I also take a sub-lingual b-12 daily. Purchase these at GNC. Good
luck. Carin

I saw the post that Eric wrote and I need to say that I am soooo very
discouaged that it was stated in there that you may have reached your
"ideal" weight. The other posts are so very encourging. I want
the truth, but, I also want the encouragement- it sounded to me as if I am
done- and I won't or don't want to believe that. After all the
"stuff" that we all have went through and those that are still
going through I am sad and disheartened. I know that this is a tool as I
beleive that is revisited here over and over again- we know that it's not a
"cure all". I guess from where I'm sitting and I read all the
posts that I am worried about the future and that this is where I am going
to sit. That is only my feelings, and I just want to let others know that
the numbers in stats can say whatever you want them to- but I have always
been stubborn. I was informed by my Dr. that there is a window of 18 - 24
months-was I lied to? I surely hope not.

Hi Brenda,
I can relate to your story. I am 2 weeks shy of 6 mos. out.
I weighed 278 to start and now have lost 68 lbs. I have been
at many plateaus, bur now I am lucky to loose a pound a week.
I have fluctuations on the scale of 1-2 lbs. This makes me crazy. I have
started taking my measurments and have been amazed at the loss in inches.
My clothes are finally started to bag
on me. I know I am eating too much salt..I love it! I eat alot of pretzels
and occassionally have some WOW chips.
I don't exercise enough and mostly just walk more. I need to start walking
more regular. I am not going to do weights until
all my excess weight is gone. I would like to be 130-135 for my 5'4"
height. I have dumped slightly on sugar free applesauce early on
and have not had any sugar. My water is steady at 64oz/day and frequentely
I have been having the MET-RX Protei Plus Bars.
I will start to walk more and try to cut down on the salt.
Please don't get discouraged. I really think it takes awhile for the body
to adjust. Keep up the good work and keep in touch!!!!!!

I am also stuck. My beginning weight was 343, 5 months later, I am 260 and
have been stuck there for August and September. My eating habits are the
same. I exercise, (walking) through sone suggestion, I run, walk, run,
walk for two weeks I have been doing that, NOTHING. Is this it, have I
lost all that I am going to lose.
