Question:
Where should I have them sen?

I am trying to get everything together in advance, and I wondered if I should have my requested recordes sent to my PCP or wait until I see the surgeon and have them sent there instead. I had my mouth wired in 1988, and I was on the Phen-fen combination in 1996. Both were different doctors from my current PCP, and my current doctor doesn't have that information. I want to be prepared. Thanks for any information you may have. Becky Buchholz    — kabookie (posted on May 26, 2000)

I think this would depend on what kind of insurance you have. If your PCP has to say that this surgery is medically necessary and refer you to a surgeon, then send the records to your pcp. But if you are just trying to keep your PCP in the loop, and the surgeon will be sending the letter of necessity to the insurance company, then send those records straight to the surgeon.

Because I am going through a major screw-up with Aetna right now, the best advice I could give anyone right now would be to make sure you have duplicates of every medical record you can get your hands on. You never know when you might need them. We moved from another state about 5 years ago, and for some reason, my doctor of 23 years would not release my medical records to my new doctor. Thank God I saved all the bloodwork I had received over the years. Between those records and my Medifast diary, I was able to document my high triglyceride, high cholesterol, HBB, diabetes, etc. Save everything and if possbile, make copies and put them in another place. rosie

Becky, these records are something you'll want to have in your own files, so why not just have them sent to you, then you can make copies for both your PCP and surgeon. Present each with a set for their records, then everyone who might need a copy will have one, and you won't face any unnecessary delays. Good luck!
