Question:
I am scheduled for surgery on 1-11-00. I've only seen the Dr. once,
and that was before I had actually made up my mind to have the surgery. I am 3 hrs. away and I will have my pre-op work done the day before my surgery. I won't meet with the Dr, again until right before surgery. Does that seem weird? When will we discuss my test results from the pre-op? What tests do they run? I tried to express my concern w/the nurse, but she acted like I shouldn't be concerned.I would love any feed-back from others reguarding pre-op tests, and how many times you met w/ the Dr. prior to surgery. Thanks! — Dani J. (posted on December 12, 1999)

I met with my doctor one month before surgery for the consultation and the
next time I saw him was the day before the operation (for pre-op tests). I
live 4 hours from the doctor's office so I appreciated not having to make
extra trips. The surgery went without a hitch. If you are uneasy about
the surgery and want to see him more often Im sure he will accomodate you
but remember that your doctor is an experienced professional. If he needed
to see you again he would. He knows what hes doing...trust his judgment.

Ity is normal to be jittery before the surgery. After all this is major
surgery not a walk in the park. All they did in my pre op tests was do
heart and blood pressure tests, took blood and I signed a lot of papers
about informed consent organ donation etc. we went over health options and
I met the anesthesioligist who assured reassured me about dealing with
overweight people. They needed to see how much I weighed so they can
calculate my anesthesia correctly. Take all your questions write them dow
for the hospital doctor etc. Email me if you need any questions answered.

Hey I just checked your profile, you are going to have surgery at the same
place that I did. Don't worry about a thing. You will get to talk with your
doc for quite a bit the day prior to surgery. I was in with mine, Dr.
Goodman, for about an hour the day before. Also you are going to have a
class to, Jeanie usually performs this class and she is wonderful! Also,
you will be seeing a tape about the whole procedure for the surgery. The
pre-op testing wasn't that much, blood, urine. I never met my doc prior to
surgery. Shoot I hadn't even talked to him on the phone prior to me flying
there. But I did know him, as he did surgery on my Aunt and cousin. I've
heard wonderful things about your doc. :) Good luck and e-mail if you want.
