Question:
Can anyone recommend an over the counter cold medication we can take?

For past 3 days, I am sneezing, have extemely itchy eyes and a runny nose that wont quit! It makes it extremely hard to sleep at nite. And my job is being on the phone for 8 hrs (which is very hard to do with having to blow my nose all the time!) Have tried Tyelnol cold, sudafed 12hr and my primary md has even given me the z-pack antobiotics thinking it was possibly bacterial (which is not even touching it). Any suggestions <before I run out of kleenex--lol> would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.    — Julie M. (posted on March 4, 2005)

I was going to suggest the Tylonal. There went that. Is there any chance it is'nt a cold? I've had alot of sneezing and runny nose and sometimes it has been a sinus infection. Also alergies can bring on both of them. Just a thought.

If you have chest congestion, try Mucinex. It's new. It's an expectorant and will get that goop out of your chest. Don't take it with any other cold meds though, because they just supress the goop, a.k.a. phlegm, and won't help you get it out of there. I had a bad, BAD cold in December and finally went to urgent care. The M.D. there told me to get it, some saline nasal spray and no other cold meds. Try it ... it worked! Good luck.

I don't have any suggestions. I use either tylenol or motrin (on a full stomach, on a rare occasion. Be careful though, many of these cold meds can cause heart palpitations. I haven't used any of them in years.

sounds like allergies my friend !! I thought i'd die last yr. and ended up figuring it out on my own on the 6th trip to the doctors. I saw the beautiful trees in full bloom. It's amazing what Clarinex will do for you!! Good luck! Bev

Mucinex is an awesome solution! I use it quite often. I have chronic sinusitis and it gives me a lot of pressure relief. The more fluids you drink while taking it, the better it will work to thin out the mucus.

Try Benedryl allergy pills, they always work for me. Take 2 every 6 hrs as needed. By them OTC

I've used Dixoral green round tablets for years. It works great for me. I also have high blood pressure and it has not affected that at all. It lasts for 12 hours. You can find it at grocery stores. Used to be prescription years ago. Good Luck!
