Question:
How do you raise your blood pressure?

Everytime I stand up, I get dizzy, and I have to stand still for a second. I've been having my blood pressure taken regularly, and it's running about a normal 113/63. Is that normal? It seems low to me, since 120/80 is text book? Shoot, before surgery, my blood pressures looked like 160/100. Thanks! Michelle 10/13/03 425/235/200    — Michelle J. (posted on October 8, 2004)

Drink plenty of liquids, add a litle salt to your eating, stand up slow, and be patient. I was high pre op, bottomed out 85 over 58 and saw stars. Within a year my body adjusted 110 over 70. Your off the BP pills?

I'm 3.5 years post op and still have the problems you've been having. Thankfully it is'nt all the time but it has'nt gone away ether. Mine has been as low as 80/40 and I've come very close to "passing into those stars". Anyway, others here have suggested "salt and caffine". I've tried both and it has'nt helped. I don't know if exercise might help as I have'nt had ANY energy at all since wls and have'nt any hope at this point. But if you have energy, perhaps try exercise. It sure could'nt hurt in any case. Good luck.

Try tomato juice and lots of fluids. I am a nurse and even tho yours is running this low, consider that when it was higher, you were overweight and it will go down as you lose weight. But, if you are being dizzy and etc, try the fluids and for sure, ask your doc. Mine runs low too since i have lost all my weight . 108/62 is normal for me. When I was in the hospital it was 75/44 and they weren't concerned because i was getting blood and iv fluids. Some people just run below what is the "textbook" for most people.

My doctor told me to drink broth. IT has sodium in it. He said to eat some of the canned soups as they have sodium in them as well. I suffered from the same thing. At times my blood pressure is 90/50. No problems since I started doing this

113/63 is pretty much in the normal range I was told. Mine runs about 90/60 most of the time now. I had problems with dizziness for a while and then it just stopped. I still run about 90/60 but don't have the problems with dizziness 98% of the time now. Just make sure your labs are okay, be careful when you get up and you'll be fine.

SALT! Drink water before so it doesn't wash through.

I don't have any suggestions on how to raise your blood pressure but I do have a tip for you about your dizzyness. Just before you are going to stand up contract your abdominal muscles. That should raise your blood pressure enough to avoid the dizzyness. Good luck to you!

Before my surgery and yet today I have to take blood pressure meds. Not like most people though. I have never had high blood pressure. Mine has run low. So low at times it would drop to almost nothing and I would pass out. This was diagnosed as VasoVagal Syncope. I now take Lopressor. Most people take it to lower there blood pressure, but for me it holds it at a steady rate. Your blood pressure seems good. Mine usually runs about 105/55.

Your dehydrated. You need more electrolytes (Propel is a goog source).

Your blood pressure is great! the 120/80 is "average" and no one ever has it <G> Your blood pressure would be considered "low" if it were under 100 systolic (the top number) -- unless, of course, you are a long distance runner. You are probably dehydrated.
