Question:
Should I send in my request now?
Ok folks I am getting ready to fax my doctors request in for my WLS. I had posted before and received one answer back just wanted to make sure I am doing the right thing. My husbands insurance started 12/19/03 I have been fighting to have this surgery done sence 1999 but I know this insurance will cover the surgery. I just don't want to send in a request to early and get turned down or if they can, refuse to cover him through his work . I am just scared of messing up and need to know if I am doing the right thing. Thanks Dana — richter454 (posted on January 6, 2004)

Hi Dana. I would have your DR send in the fax. That way it looks more
official. I had my WLSurgeon send in the letter of medical necessity to
the insurance. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Unless you are not covered under the Hipaa stuff, you shouldn't worry about
the new insurance thing. But I do have to agree that I would have my
doctor send it in. They will most likely ask for that anyhow. PS--I went
to the initial consult just two days after my insurance took effect. That
shouldn't be an issue.

I would send it right away and get the process started as soon as possible,
esp. if the company could change insurance's next month. The insurance
company may have requirements too so you could get started on that - such
as a psych eval, or other tests, proof of weight loss attempts, etc. Good
luck.
