Question:
I'm 2.5 months post-op, and I've felt GREAT for the first....

two months. I've had tons of energy, enjoyed running up the stairs in my home, did ALL of my chores, etc. I've also now lost 52 lbs. The issue is, for the past two weeks or so my energy level has significantly DROPPED. I feel like I've been horsewhiped! It all started with a body ache, and since, I can barely make it home before I'm crawling in the bed. I am sleeping 8-10 hours per night, and still feel no better. I WANT to exercise, but simply have no energy to even water the flowers, much less get on the treadmill....could I be suffering from a B12 deficiency this much out, or perhaps I'm dehydrated. I drink, drink, drink all of the time, or at least I try.....any help is appreciated! Robin    — richarro (posted on July 31, 2003)

Hi Robin, You may have a b12 problem or it could even be iron anemia. My doc has recently changed his b12 suggestions to 2 sublingual per week (up from one). They said this is the new standard. Get your bloodwork checked. Lynda

I can totally relate to you. I also have felt the same way as for the last two weeks, and I'm only 6 weeks out from surgery. I'm going to my PCP in the morning to get my Iron and B12 checked out along with anything else she wants to check. Best of luck to you and hope you get your blood work done soon.

Definitely time to get your blood work done! You don't have to see your surgeon about this, call your PCP and make an appt. This is gp basics. Good luck!

You should check with your doctor if you are very concerned. My opinion is that your body is in starvatiion mode and trying to run as little as possible. I went throught the same thing at the 7-10 week point. Make sure you are getting all your vitamins and most important enough protein and water. How many calories and grams of protein are you getting in?? If you are not giving your body enough fuel it will not perform. ** Kelly

The same thing happened to me. I had oodles of energy when I was home recuperating for 3 weeks, but as soon as I went back to work BAM....exhausted. I was lucky if I made it upstairs, I usually just crashed on the couch as soon as I walked in the door. I started getting B-12 injections from my PCP. They helped a little. I think your body just needs time to adjust to the rigors of life without the amount of fuel been accustomed to getting .
