Question:
How do you eat out when you are on the run?
I am going on a trip to Massachusetts and doing sight seeing. We will be eating on the run. What will I do if the places we stop to eat at, don't have the type of food I should be eating? If I bring food with me, it's kind of hard to keep lunch an dinner cold if you will be sight seeing. Any suggestions? — Jane P. (posted on July 25, 2003)

I think that most places would have something that you could eat (grilled
chicken sandwich sans the bun, chili, chef's salad, chicken wings,
soup...). However, it's good to be prepared, so you might pack some single
servings of jerky, nuts, string cheese sticks (they keep well all day
without refrigeration), sunflower seeds, protein bars, protein powder in a
shaker, prepackaged peanut butter and crackers or cheese and crackers, and
the like just in case you're really backed up against the wall.

It will depend how far out you are post-op. If your past the
pureed/liquid/soft foods stage, then you can eat just about anything. Even
fast food places have grilled chicken or other meat sandwiches (Subway),
chili, salads with grilled meats, etc. Pack your favorite protein bars
too. If you are in the pureed/liquid/soft stage, a little more difficult,
but can be done-egg drop soup, refried beans, scrambled eggs.

String cheese, beef jerky, peanut butter w/ 2 crakers, protein bars are
always easy to carry for me.

How about packing some protein bars with you or some protein powders that
dissolve easily in water with just a spoon such as protein nector. Have a
wonderful trip. Here's a link to the protein nectar (the apple is GREAT,
but martian green in color... LOL) if you aren't familiar with it:

I'm not sure how far out you are.. but there are FEW places you might not
find something good to eat.. except perhaps someplace italian.. beyond
that, you're likely to find or be able to request a fairly plain chicken
breast to eat... I often order a chicken breast sandwich and tell them to
forget the bun... <br><br>for on the run snacks.. I carry
walnuts, Atkins chips, Genny's Soy Crisps, Sci Fit Beef sticks, Protein
Bites -- I travel a lot so I always have these things with me. I don't eat
jerky much but that is a viable on the go option... Good luck!

I do try to take a small cooler just for me when we go distance and I just
take liquids and some string cheese, protien bars and little snacks. Alls
you have to do is change the ice. When I do eat out like that I eat at taco
bell for fast food and resteraunts I just try to order kid steak meals or
something like chili, eggs, fish or chicken. Never finish anything of
course, I let the family eat it or I leave it. Good luck!
