Question:
How long does the pain last?
I just had my gallbladder removed laporoscopically (on Thursday) and while they removed it, they found out I had hernia, so they reapaired that as well. I am in so much pain, it's unbearable. Much more than when I had my LAP RNY in 9/02. Has anyone been through a hernia repair? And how long did the pain last? When were you able to walk, drive, exercise again? Right now it hurts to cough, move, etc...I don't know what to do, it's horrible. — Ladybug M. (posted on July 6, 2003)

I had multiple hernias repaired in February at the same time I had a
panniculectomy. I had a lot of pain but you have to understand that I have
a seven inch incision down the mid-line and a 25 inch insion from hip bone
to hip bone. I had over 250 staples. I am still having some discomfort
from the hernia repair - there is surgical mesh attached to muscles and
sometimes the muscles rebel and go into spasms. My surgeon says that is
normal. But, I was walking two miles 5 days after surgery and I went back
to work two weeks post-op. I could have gone back in a week but my surgeon
kept me in town (my surgery was 3 hours from my home) for 10 days after
leaving the hospital. I didn't have much trouble walking - it was sore but
it was much easier than after RNY when I weighed so much more.
