Question:
Could eating a larger meal than normal yesterday make me hungry today?
I am 4 weeks post-op and yesterday I ate a modified Thanksgiving meal: a tiny slice of turkey, a tbs mash potatoes, a bit of sweet potatoes and mashed jeruselem archichokes. About two hours later I had a tiny sliver of pumpkin pie (just the insides no crust). I have to say it was the best meal I have had since surgery and I felt the best after eating (I usually feel nauseaus after eating). Well today I am starving! It seems every hour or so I am hungry again. I am trying to push it to two hours but for the first time since surgery I feel hungry. Is this normal or did I screw something up yesterday? — Kelly T. I would say that is normal. My nausea lasted 2 mths, and once it subsided I
finally had an appetite also. Sounds like you're recouping well. Just be
careful that you are getting your protein in first, and plenty of water to
help keep yourself with a satisfied feeling. These two things will help the
appetite from soaring. I'm having to use alot of self control right now to
stay away from the carbs. I really crave them and if I start my day with
them, or just eat too much of them throughout the day, I seem to constantly
crave them and have no desire for protein or other healthy foods. I'm
always having to remind myself too of getting my water in.

I'm unfortunately one of those people who also feel hungry
on a regular basis. I'm 4 weeks post-op open RNY same as
you. I ate what you ate for Thanksgiving if you substitute
jelly cranberry sauce for the artichokes too! I think that
some of us are just unlucky to have hunger pains earlier
than others. I was hoping I wouldn't but I do. My worst
time is late afternoon to bedtime. I think we're both fine
just a little unlucky! :-)
