Question:
Has anyone been approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee this year?

My employer's policy has an exclusion for WLS, and I asked them to remove it. When my HR manager called BCBS, she was told 'absolutely not' can the exclusion be removed. BCBS also told her that they are putting this exclusion in ALL policies beginning this year (ours renewed 11/01)! Here my company is willing to change the exclusion for me, but the insurance company won't allow it?? Did the BCBS rep just not know what she was talking about, or is this true? HELP! I have BCBS of Tennessee under the State plan. BCBS seems to be different, depending where you work. I was approved this year. I don't understand much about the insurance procedures and policies but, I was denied and had to reapply to get my decision overturned. My advice is to keep on them and don't give up!!!

I have BCBS TN PPO We have an exclusion on our policy I was told I have sent my paper work in to the Dr.s office today it will be a while before I find out I will let you know. Marilyn

Almost every policy has this exclusion, check to see if there is a "medical necessity" exception.

I have BC/BS of TN and was approved this year and had the surgery. It's Blue Preferred Network and it's a PPO plan if this helps any. My husband carries the insurance thru work - not a "state" job either. If your going to use Centennial Medical Center for your surgery... phone Lisa Ferrell at 1-800-223-9899 ext. 1231 (outside of Nashville) or from within Nashville area it's 615-342-1231. Her group along with Terrie from Dr. Olsen's office did a great job in getting me approved.

I am just starting the process 3/7/06 and when we first got this insurance on the packet it said it coverd up to 25k in WLS we have not sent in for approval yet but will be soon as soon as I get the phyc and diet info back. will update after it all.
