Question:
This sounds strange, but is there such a thing as too much weight loss?

I am only 5 months out from lap rny. I started at 282lbs, and currently am at 177lbs, for a total loss so far of 105lbs. My question is that my weight is still coming off rather fast, and it has actually increased over the past few weeks. I always thought the last 20lbs or so came off much more slowly. Should I be concerned that I am still losing so fast? Don't get me wrong, I am grateful to almost be a goal at 5 months, but am concerned that I will keep losing for awhile cause my pouch hasn't been given enough time to stretch to the point where I will just maintain. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.    — marc B. (posted on April 4, 2002)

I lost 60 lbs. in my first six weeks and a total of 171 lbs. in my first year. I still lose approximately 6 lbs. per month (43 lbs. to goal). Yes, there is such a thing as losing too much weight. If you or your doctor are concerned, eat more carbs and eat more frequently. That should slow things down.

Hi Marc! You guys lose so fast! You want to make sure you are not losing your muscle. How many calories are you taking in every day? How much protein? You want to eat enough protein to maintain your muscle mass. Beyond that--as the previous poster said--you can add carbs to slow things down. At 5 months you may not be able to eat the volume of protein you need. Have you considered a supplement? Just some questions for you to consider. Hope it helps. Oh, and congrats on the great weight loss!
