Question:
Can I be denied
I had a Thyroidectomy in 98 and now I am Hypothyroid. We know that is why I have gained so much weight. But can I be denied because I have thyroid problems. I am really going crazy about everything that could cause me to be denied, but this is the question that has not been put to rest, you could say. — Emile N. (posted on February 22, 2002)

I have hypothyroidism and have for 16 years. It wasn't a problem getting
the ins. They will do blood tests to make sure your levels are okay.
Otherwise your metabolism would make your weight loss sluggish, and you
want every advantage going into surgery.

I had my thyroid removed in May 2001 due to hyperthyroidism. I had a goiter
and the Dr. said the only way to correct the problem was to remove the
thyroid. After surgery I had hypothyroidism and was put on Synthroid to get
my TSH level back to where it should be. Needless to say in the process I
gain almost 30 lbs. I was afraid I might be denied because of the thyroid
issue, but I wasn't and was approved after the first time and I just had my
surgery on Jan. 29. I have lost 20 1/2 lbs. and am feeling better. I don't
know what your insurance will do, but I don't think the thyroid issue
should hamper the decision and I wish you the best of luck in your journey
to a new you. I truly know what you are going through.

I had a toxic nodule goiter on my right thyroid gland. I had surgery to
remove it and was put on Synthroid and then Levoxyl (because it is cheaper
to pay out of pocket) I had the thyroid surgery February of 97. It was not
a problem as far as being approved for surgery. They check your levels to
make sure they are within the right range, but if you are taking your meds,
you shouldn't have a problem. Believe me, I know all of the worrying you
are going through, I am a worry wort to begin with. Everything went fine
for me though. Good luck on your approval and surgery.

I had my thyroid removed last year in March. Due to cancer and I was
approved on my first letter. When I called my endo dr. she said no
problem go ahead and have the surgery. So your answer to your question is
this should be be any reason for denial. I go in Monday for open rny.
