Question:
How can a person determine bone size to check weight charts, small med, large bone
Are their charts that are used to check bone size to determine you goal weight? I have seen one that measures the elbow width. I have a small wrist and hands,i use to wear a size 5 wedding ring, but i am always compared in the charts to a medium frame for weight, how can i tell body frame size for weight? — [Anonymous] (posted on January 15, 2002)

When I once joined a health club and they were assessing my fat percentage,
she said to use your long finger and thumb of one hand and wrap around the
wrist on the other hand. If your fingers cross, then you have a small
frame, if they meet or nearly meet you have a medium frame, and if they
don't meet at all then you are large framed.

I'm not sure that is very accurate, the wrist measurement thing. I used to
not be able to touch my fingers, thus large boned. Now I can touch my
fingers, so medium now? If I squish really hard, I can overlap the
fingers, maybe small frame? Bone frame doesn't change, so that doesn't
make sense to me. Elbow width would make more sense. Both my kids are
thin, yet my boy has thick elbows and my little girl has some little sharp
elbows. Same with their heels. One has thick wide heels, my girl has
narrow tiny heels. I really have no clue, just wanted to offer my little
opinion.

Please don't get mad but, I agree with the previous poster about the wrist
thing. Yes, when I was large, I guess I was big boned because there was no
way that I could touch my fingers because of the fat at the wrists. I have
now lost all the weight and I can actually wrap my fingers around the top
of my arm! My wrists are tiny. So, I doubt that my bone structure went
down after surgery. I don't have any answer for you but the wrist thing
can't be true.

No you measure the outside of your elbow bones with your arm fully bent
upright close as possible to your body. I just lost this reference in a
computer crash, thanks AOL7.0
When I was MO this was the only exposed bone not covered in fat anywhere on
my body. 2 1/4 or so was large frame, I dont remember the exact number.

Ok.. take a measuring tape and measure your wrist.. between the protruding
bone and your hand. If it measures anywhere between 5-6 inches, you are
small boned. 6-7 is medium and 7-8 is large. BUT the best thing to do is
to meausure the elbow bones. You can go to www.google.com and type in
"measure elbow bones" or something to that effect. I did this
very thing and went to an excellent site done by metlife.com. I don't have
the exact site anymore. But playing around with the search engine will
help you out. I am small boned myself, and at 5'4", My goal weight
should fall in the 115-125 pound range. I don't know how tall you are, but
if you are my height, there you go! Take care and best of luck. Annie
(ps.. don't follow what your ring size is either, I wore a 5 ring when I
was 250 pounds, now, it is falling off!)

Try this site: http://www.aomc.org/HOD2/general/weight-HEIGHT_W.html It
tells exactly how you should measure, and what a medium-framed man or
woman's elbow measurement should be. If you are below, you're small-boned,
if you're above, you're large-boned.
