Question:
What could pain directly under the breastbone signify?
I am 2 years post-op. I have stopped losing and am down only 80 lbs. from 302. For the past few weeks, I occasionally have pain in the area directly under where the bottom of the ribcage meets (breastbone?), right after I eat. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks, Eileen — Eileen H. (posted on August 24, 2000)

If you had not had surgery I would certainly say heartburn or reflux. But
perhaps it is that, anyway. The clue I am going by is that it happens
right after you eat. Have you tried antacid? I am not post op so perhaps
others have insight into this. If it continues seek medical help.

Dear Eileen,
I think that probably your symptoms could describe a number of things. I
have the same area of pain, and I found I have a large, ventral hernia. I
am having it repaired next month. I had an open RNY last June and have
lost a total of 74 pounds thus far. Good luck and check with your Doc.
