Question:
Need all info available to convince insurance company
My first appt is June 2nd. I am 5'4" 210 pds with additional medical problems. I know I am not "huge" but my health is at risk. I am worried that I am not "large" enough to qualify. I have to send info into dr before visit and want to make sure I answer "correctly". Any help would be appreciated so very much. — Rhonda S. (posted on May 11, 2000)

You may not be large enough under the typical medical guidelines (100 lbs
overweight), but since you have helath problems directly related to weight,
I'd give it a shot. You will likely be denied the 1st time out (many are),
but be persistent, you just may win out. If you can prove the other
requirements (numerous diets that failed), and co-morbidity, you have a
chance.
good luck.

I had a lap RNY in March. Acordia was my primary insurance; CIGNA was my
secondary via my husband's employer. My surgeon submitted a letter of need
to both companies and I was approved by both within 3 weeks of the only
letter submitted. Neither company required additional letters from my PCP,
gastroenterologist or orthopedic surgeon. Good luck! Diana
