Question:
I had surgery for acchalasia of the esophogus in 1982 with a nisson fundoplication
My question is since I already had the nisson fundoplication can I still get the surgery? I still have a problem with acid reflux probably because of my weight. I am a 40 yr old male who weighs close to 400 lbs. and I have tried every diet out there. I need help!!! — Thomas B. (posted on August 25, 1999)

You need a brave surgeon and some luck. If there are too many adhesions
(scar tissue) around your stomach from the
previous surgery you will be out of luck. I had that happen once to me
with a man who had had 2 previous gastroplasties which had failed. also of
course you will be at greater risk of leak and bleeding.

I had Lap Nissen Fundolplacation Sept 1998, I called my surgeon and he said
he could reverse the Nissen and do the Bypass, and tjis could still help
the reflux
