Question:
Why do some doctors use G tubes on the lapiscopic gastric bypass?
Why do some doctors put G tubes in patients and other doctors don't? My doctor does and my girlfriend who had her lapiscopic gastric bypass didn't have G tubes does anybody know why? Thanks Cheryl — ceejay51 (posted on April 19, 2005)

One of the reasons that I am aware of it is the protocol for the fobi
pouch. Not really sure why though. Some surgeons see it as a way to keep
you hydrated and nourished for the first few weeks post op.

I had lap gastric bypass and had a g tube because of all the meds that I
had to take and I did have some problems afterward and my doc felt that it
was the best way to ensure that I got the fluids, nurishment that I did not
want to have, and the meds that were still necessary. It is a
inconvenience, but it is only temporary and necessary. I was also so
pleased when it was taken out, that you feel twice as good as you probably
should. So, grin and bear it, just remember that it is a personal decision
to have the surgery and accept that it is the road that you are taking and
you just deal with the speed bumps along the way. I started the surgical
part of the journey on September 27,2004 at 426 lbs., now I am 290 lbs. at
last count, I only weigh in when I go to a doctor, so that I don't become
obsessive with it, and still going. The removal of the g tube is a simple,
1 minute procedure that is done in the doctor's office and , as I said,
makes you twice as happy that that part of the journey is over. If you are
getting surgery, be ready for the worst, but be happy with what comes
along, or at least grin and bear it. Good luck and best wishes. Debbie
