Question:
8 months post op--leg pain and weakness
I am 8 months post op--46 yrs old, female, down 83 lbs. I've had almost no problems so far, but.....about 4 weeks ago I started experiencing aching pains in my left leg, traveling the length of the leg, accompanied by weakness. Now my right leg is experiencing weakness, but no pain. This aching pain happens sitting, standing, lying down, walking, whatever. This pain travels up and down the outer portion only of the entire leg. This is not joint pain. I have not fallen down yet, but I find walking a challenge now, having to hold onto walls and furniture for support. I have been faithfully taking in my protein, water, supplements (multivitamin, calcium citrate, B-12, biotin, zinc, vitamin C). I have started doubling up on the multivitamin and B-12, noticing no improvement. At my six month check up, my iron levels were low, so now I also take a prescription iron supplement daily. I will be contacting my doctor shortly, are there any suggestions? I am suspecting a malabsorption issue, just which one(s)? Thanks for your input. — Cisbell (posted on May 27, 2004)

I am still pre - op, so I am not sure if this is WLS related, but it sounds
like your sciatic (?) nerve. I had trouble with this when I was pregnant.
It is very painful and can cause numbness or weakness. I would ask your
doctor about it. Usually a shot of cortizone will do wonders.

You need to get to a doctor and get your labs drawn. There's too many
things it could be, and not all related to mineral deficiency. Pain and
weakness in the extremities should be checked out ASAP.

I'd go to a doctor and ask them to check for blood clots as a possibility.
Those are nothing you want to mess around with.

I would get to the doctor ASAP and have them check you out. It sounds like
blood clots. I had a friend who experienced the same symptons and she had
a very large blood clot in her leg. She was in the hospital for several
days to get it dissolved and still takes blood thinner (after 8 years).

CALL THE DOCTOR NOW!!!!!!!!!! Don't want to scare you but this sounds like
trouble. I had it and it was a problem with curculation, could have been
blood clots if my dr hadn't made me have test right away. Please call now.
God Bless and good Luck

As an RN, and if you were my patient, I would tell you to see your
PCP/General practice doctor IMMEDIATELY! What you are describing sound
suspiciously like a DVT. That is a deep vein thrombosis, blood clot in
your vein. If it is a DVT you run the chance of it dislodging and
traveling to your lungs (pulmonary embolism) or perhaps to your brain(which
could cause a stroke). It may not be that severe but please PLEASE go see
your doctor!
