Question:
Dumping on Fats
Is dumping on fats any different physically than dumping on sugars? I think I dumped on some sour cream (had a small stuffed baked potato, only fat source was sour cream--low fat was not an option at that moment), but the dumping actually occurred 3 hours after I ate the offending food. Anyway, 3 hours after eating I felt the old dumping feeling, but it had been 3 hours since I had eaten any calories. Sugar, I dump within 15 minutes. — Cisbell (posted on November 4, 2003)

I have not tried sugar yet but have dumped on sugar alcohols in protein
bars and on a liquid medicine once. I have however dumped even worse on
fat. It was, in my opinion, way worse dumping on the fat but the experience
was the same. I did have more of an instant dumping with the sugar than
with the fat. That took a couple of hours.

So far I dump on Fats but not sugar. If I'm going to dump it always
happens in 30 minutes or less. I'm sure that we are all different. There
is also the possibility that it just did not agree w/ you?

I dump on fats but not on sugar. I had a sample of a sausage at the grocery
store, and by the time we finished shopping, it was all I could do to get
home and lay down! Pain, nausea, sweats, lightheaded - all passed after
about 20 minutes.

It may not have been exactly dumping... Are you lactose intolerant now?
That could be it. Usually dumping will occur very quickly. I've dumped on
Ham at Easter time (you know- the kind you cut off the bone). God, I
thought I was gonna die- well- actually- I HOPED I would die to just make
it stop :) If I ever see a ham again....:( Anyway- you don't mention what
the old dumping feeling is. Palpitations, nausea, sweats, possibly
vomiting, fatigue, etc. If that's what you experienced, then it's probably
what it was. DOn't rule out the lactose thing if you havent looked into it
though.

I dumped on the fat in macademia nuts once. It had been at least 1 1/2 to
2 hours after I ate the nuts that I dumped (having not eaten anything else
in the meantime). The only sugar I dumped on was a very mild episode in
the first few weeks caused by diluted apple juice. I dumped on that within
about 15 minutes of drinking it, so our patterns are similar.

Hopefully this will help you understand what's going on:
Rapid gastric emptying, or dumping syndrome, happens when the small
intestine fills too quickly with undigested food from the stomach.
"Early" dumping begins during or right after a meal. Symptoms of
early dumping include nausea, vomiting, bloating, diarrhea, and shortness
of breath. "Late" dumping happens 1 to 3 hours after eating.
Symptoms of late dumping include weakness, sweating, and dizziness.
Blessings,
dina
