Question:
What happens if your BMI goes below 40?
A supervised diet was not part of my insurance process (I was denied), but I've always wondered, what if you do the diet and it gets you below 40 BMI? Are you then considered cured of MO and disqualified? Or what it you do the diet and don't lose much. Are you then denied because you're seen as non-compliant or something? Those damned insurance companies are so untrustworthy, they'd use ANY excuse to avoid paying! — Chris T. (posted on July 21, 2003)

More then likely if you go under a 40 BMI you will no longer qualify. They
just want to make sure that this is your last resort. I don't think that
you would be disqualified for being non-compliant of the diet. Then a lot
of people would be because that is how we got here in the first place.
Sorry about your denial.

Almost all insurances will qualify you with NO co-morbs and a BMI of 40.
But 35-40 WITH comorbs qualifies you. So, I guess it all depends on what
all you have wrong with you.
