Question:
Why the HECK did my surgeon cut thru my old WLS scar?

Hi ya'll im a light weight and just now have gained back to my orginal 260lbs and had a revision from Open VBG to Open RnY. My surgeon even said he would cut "OUT" my old scar but he didn't. I am buddies with another WLS Pt of his who had surgery the SAME day and she too was a WLS revision and guess what. SHE too had her incision cut THRU her old scar. its ugly and it makes us both made cause he told her as well that Yes, he cuts the old scar out. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR anyone have a clue? I aint EVEN seen his ... since hospital he lets his PA take over after that...grrr    — WLS_Deb (posted on June 7, 2003)

Hey Deb. Of course, I don't know the problem you're talking about, but I will say this: DEMAND to see him. I know the whole deal with Julius, but still, DEMAND to see Naaman. He's the one who did the cutting, force HIM to answer your questions! ACK! By the way, send me an e-mail at [email protected]. Talk to you soon honey! Love, Cheryl

I too had revision from open vbg to open rny. My old scar remains but a long side it is the much neater, smaller scar from the rny. To be honest, what's the big deal with having both scars?? Were you going to wear a bikini? I thought only a plastic surgeon could make neaten up that mess. I have been living with this scar for over 10 yrs, its part of me now. It's the least of my worries.

not sure beverly but the thing is he said he takes em out..cuts them out. where my old scar wasn't bad the new cut is ok... but some places are big and look like lips now. as I go down im sure some of the scar will shrink but it could have been less noticable if he had done what he said by taking the old one out. My question is ...why would a doc say he will and doesn't?

I'm a revision from VBG to RNY also and my surgeon cut through my scar. To be honest with you, at first I was a little disappointed but now I really couldn't care less. My new scar is the same color as the old scar so it looks like the same ole scar. I figure a scar is the LEAST of my worries and I'll gladly take it and consider it a battle scar to remind me where I've been, where I'm going and NEVER to go back. Don't worry about it too much. Just focus on the big picture and get on with your life. That's what I'm doing and, at 46, my life is better than it's ever been. Who cares about a stinkin scar - I'm gonna live at least 30 more years that I would have without the surgery.
