Question:
Does anyone know of a surgeon in the Chicago/NW IN area who does MGB?
Does anyone know of a surgeon or bariatric center in Northwest Indiana or the Chicago area that does the MGB procedure? It seems like a great procedure and I know that there's some controversy surrounding it but all the post-op patients I'v communicated with had no problems. And all did quite well. Any input would be welcomed. — Dorothy N. (posted on June 17, 2002)

Can you tell me what MGB is? I've never heard of it.

Hi I am in NW Indiana
I think you are asking about the Mini Gastric Bypass.
This is a old surgery that was abandoned by most surgeons.
There are a few that have started to do it again laparoscopic,
but it still has the same complications as before like acid reflex.
There is a excellent yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MGB-TRUTH/
that talks about it in depth.
I would highly recommend that you consider the Roux-en-Y witch can also be
done laparoscopic.
please feel free to email me

Hi, I also think that the minigastric bypass procedure is not being done by
many suregons. I went to Dr. Cahill in Evergreen PArk, IL ( Little Company
of Mary Hospital) for my open Gastric Bypass 7 weeks ago. He and his team
are fantastic! Perhaps a call to them could get your question answered.
They are very very helpful!

From all I've heard, very few surgeons do the MGB because of the
controversy surrounding it. Anyway, if you are considering GB, I had RNY
Gastric Bypass by Dr. John Alverdy at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
He has a very comprehensive program, great after-care and follow up as well
as a support group. He does have a long wait, but the program is worth it.

Lee Ann, MGB stands for mini gastric bypass. It's a very short procedure,
the patient is usually discharged within 24 hours, the recovery time is
much much quicker...it seemed like the answer to my prayers. Yes, I know
about the controversy surrounding this surgery but I have emailed several
people who had it and none of them have had those complications. My first
consideration was lap RNY but I'm a big chicken...don't know how I'd handle
it. Thanx for the website, Chris. I'll look it up.
