Question:
Six small meals versus three larger ones?
I have noticed that different doctors recommend different types of eating patterns. My doctor recommends eating two or three meals a day, with no snacking in between. However, I have noticed other posters saying they eat many small meals during the day. I think I would prefer the small meals more often. Which is the best? I am 10.5 months out, and I do eat a snack in between meals occasionally, but I would just like the opinions of others, and how they feel it has affected their weight loss and eating habits. I am thinking about changing to the smaller meals, as most health professionals think this is the better route for all people to eat (not just WLS). Thanks. — sheron H. (posted on February 3, 2002)

I'm supposed to eat three meals and no snacking but I can't do it. I think
I'm going to switch to more meals, but smaller. I can't seem to lose any
more weight (it's just trickling now) so perhaps it's time to try it. ;)
(I'm almost nine months out now.)

When I had surgery in 94 my surgeon said 3 meals a day only. What she and
I have learned is that most of the time we cannot get enough protein in in
3 meals and need to keep our bodies running. So, I eat 6 small meals,
usually the *in between* meals is a protein shake or bar or some sort of
protein such as baked chicken wings. When I started doing this along with
cutting carbs and exercise and upping water, I noticed my wt loss picked up
again after a 3 month plateau. I hit maintenance eating this way and still
do. This is just my experience, I had the open rny and am a short
proximal, 50 cm bypassed. Rita in Brrmont RNY 3/31/94 then 463/now 190ish
or so give or take a gallon of water
