Question:
What does it mean when the urine is bright yellow?
I'm 6 months post-op and down 80pds, but when I urinate it's really bright yellow. I drink a lot of water I don't burn when I go. I'm hoping it's fat that's coming out of my body. Wishful thinking I bet any suggestions. — Antoinette P. (posted on May 29, 2001)

It's probably from your vitamins. Vitamin B2, riboflavin, can cause this.

Its more than likely your vitamins... have your Dr check. A lot of times
people are getting to much of them and you may be able to cut back if you
are trully over doing it.

It may be the vitamins but my nutritionist also advised me of dehydration
and the urine will be a dark yellow. Sometimes we may think we're drinking
enough when we're not. Couldn't hurt to keep track of fluids to be sure and
follow up with Dr.(phone call works for me). Check with the pharmacist on
the vitamins. It could be that but then again maybe not....best wishes

One way to check if it's the vitamins is to look at the color in the
morning and in the afternoon. It should be bright yellow soon after you
take your vitamins, but if you are getting lots of fluids in, the
yellowness should be very slight in the afternoon. I've been taking
vitamins daily for three years following a spleenectomy and I've definitely
noticed this trend.

I had the same and the dietitian said it was from dehydration.

I am a RN and the bright yellow is from the vitamins that you are hopefully
taking. Now, if you are dehydrated your urine will look like a very dark
yellow and of course urine output will not be that great with dehydration.
