Question:
How can I get in more proteins and other foods that I need?
I am 6 months post-op and down 74pds. I know that I should be at my 100pd. mark now as large as I was. I started out at 334 before my surgery. I don't eat nearly enough to lose the amount of weight that need to lose before my 12-18 month period. I exercise 3-4 times a week andI walk. But my biggest problem is I'm not eating enough. I drink my water and alot of it. Any suggestions on how I can bring myself to eat more? I try to eat my proteins, vegetables fruits, everything that I'm suppose to eat. Just not that much and if I force myself to eat I get sick. Should I get some protein shakes to add to my meals each day? Because the weight is not coming off like it is suppose too and I know it is because I'm not eating all the calories that I should be eating. Anyone please help!!!!!! — [Anonymous] (posted on May 1, 2001)

It's not the number of calories, so much as the TYPE of calories. That's
why a good protein shake is nice. Not that many calories, but they go to
work FOR you, not against you. You're much better off if the protein you
choose has about 30g of protein per serving, and as close to 0g of sugar as
possible. Mix with water or Crystal Light, maybe. Just make sure the
mixer has 0g of sugar, too, so not milk or real juice. I commend you on
working out and getting the water in. SOME OF US (looking around
innocently) did not do as well in those areas.

I am four months post-op and knew I would also have this problem. I do a
protein shake with skim milk(SciFit) or Extreme Pure Pro which is mixed
into water and is more like kool-aid. The Extreme Pure Pro is much easier
for me to stomach on a daily basis.
