Question:
Has anyone had their period return after surgery?
I haven't had a period for a year. My PCP says it's due to the weight. At 46, I thought it was menopause. In my opinion, it's the only good side effect of being fat. Also, does everyone usually need a tummy tuck? It seems like that's what I'm reading and it makes me nervous, since my insurance won't cover it. I'm hoping to lose 125-150 lbs. — marlo T. From one Mary Beth to another:) I am almost 42- haven't had
periods for years without the help of drugs. I had my surgery
in January of 2000 and started regular periods by July- haven't
missed one since. I also have lost 133 pounds (with a goal
of another 20) and I am praying to avoid plastic surgery also.
So far, I am thinking I might be ok. I do have sagging skin,
but I am not sure if it is enough to do anything about. I
am going to wait another year, exercise, drink water, and
use lots of lotion and keep on praying! I think it will
depend on your skin type also. Good Luck!

I have returned to somewhat normal periods. Before my surgery, I would have
one maybe once or twice a year. Since my surgery in October, they have been
fairly consistant. I'm 36 and learning that I'm developing PMS, cramps and
a general feeling malase during this time. I was somewhat regular during my
20's but now I feel like I did when I was in my teens.

Hi, I'm 31 and have always been so regular that I used my monthly cycle as
birth control my entire adult life! It was something I could always depend
on, every 28 days....
Well, the heavier I got, the more irregular my periods became. I thought I
had something terribly wrong with my reproductive system, but my gyn told
me it was due to my weight. I finally stopped having them altogether. That
was actually the last straw for me, it pushed me over the edge into
deciding to have the surgery. After losing the first 40#, my periods have
come back full force, and just as regularly. Many women would not consider
this a good thing, but I'm really relieved that things are right again.
