Question:
Can you please advise me re: sugar
Hope I can explain this right. I am 6 months post-op and dumped my first month once during 2 tiny sips of mcdonalds lemonade. I have stayed away from sugar since then, except for a bite(very tiny) of dessert now and then with no regrets. My question is, when I look on the back of product labels....should I be staying under a certain gram for sugar...like 8? I thought I heard that somewhere and was wondering if you know you dump...is there a gram we should know to stay under? Hope this makes sense to you all. thanks — VIXYVIX (posted on February 4, 2001)

Vicki: I have read that we should stay under 6 grams of sugar per serving.

If it's a natural sugar you should be able to tolerate it. I can drink OJ,
grape juice, ect. I know some people do dump on natural sugar. I was told
by my doctor that natural sugar is tolerated but not right after WLS. I
think I could have full juice a few weeks out. I hope this helped. Take
care! Jay

6g is the suggested limit for good wt loss. The type of sugar doesn't
matter, as even "too much" natural sugar will inhibit wt loss.
If you are more concerned about dumping than wt loss, then each person has
a different dump-limit and it changes day to day, time of day, etc. Your
goal, I'd guess, is to lose as much wt as possible. So, if you use 6g, you
should be safe from wt gain AND dumping. That's 6g per meal, so includes
the gravies, sauces, dressings-everything. A glass of milk contains 12g
for example. An OJ more like 22g.
