Can you please advise me re: sugar

Hope I can explain this right. I am 6 months post-op and dumped my first month once during 2 tiny sips of mcdonalds lemonade. I have stayed away from sugar since then, except for a bite(very tiny) of dessert now and then with no regrets. My question is, when I look on the back of product labels....should I be staying under a certain gram for sugar...like 8? I thought I heard that somewhere and was wondering if you know you dump...is there a gram we should know to stay under? Hope this makes sense to you all. thanks
