Question:
Has anyone out there ever had a collapsed lung?
I had surgery a few years ago and both of my lungs collapsed afterwards. It wasn't due to the surgery, just poor care afterwards. Now I have breathing problems and cough a lot. I have been diagnosed with cough varient asthma, which pretty much means most smells and temperature changes cause me to cough. I am wondering if this will effect my surgery in any way? — janetlynne69 (posted on January 17, 2001)

Hi, I had a partially collapsed lung after having RNY surgery. The
pulmonary doctor said it's fairly common given the fact that the lung is so
close to the area they are working. I would definitely discuss this with
your surgeon and see what can be done for you; perhaps they will just take
some extra precautions with you. Good luck and God bless :-)
