Question:
Not sure if approved...what would you do?

Ok, on Nov.2nd I had my initial appt. then on Nov 3rd they called and said I was approved! NOW.........I called the insurance company to make sure, because I never received an approval letter, and they said they have nothing in the database of any dr or his staff calling! I am NOT approved! The doctor and the hospital are in network and the rep at the insurance company said it is up to them to precertify this procedure and if they dont I am not responsible for it. The thing is....when the hospital goes to pre-auth my days in the hospital, they will find out there was never a pre-cert for my doctor. The procedure costs $13,000.00 if you pay in cash. I CAN NOT pay this! I have it all set up at work to take 4 weeks off with my STD and now I dont have the approval! I have emailed the dr's office two times and no response. I'd make sure I had the approval in writing. If they say they don't do that, be nice, but say you would really feel better if you had it in writing. They can fax or mail it to you. If you can visit them in person do so, if you can't, phone and/or e-mail them. Good luck!!!!!

If your insurance has a medical management team of nurses, ask to speak to them instead of a regular customer service rep with your insurance company. Explain your situation and see what they have to say. Whoever dealt with your claim may have not entered the proper info. Good luck, Jan
