Not sure if approved...what would you do?

Ok, on Nov.2nd I had my initial appt. then on Nov 3rd they called and said I was approved! NOW.........I called the insurance company to make sure, because I never received an approval letter, and they said they have nothing in the database of any dr or his staff calling! I am NOT approved! The doctor and the hospital are in network and the rep at the insurance company said it is up to them to precertify this procedure and if they dont I am not responsible for it. The thing is....when the hospital goes to pre-auth my days in the hospital, they will find out there was never a pre-cert for my doctor. The procedure costs $13,000.00 if you pay in cash. I CAN NOT pay this! I have it all set up at work to take 4 weeks off with my STD and now I dont have the approval! I have emailed the dr's office two times and no response. What should I do???
