Question:
How do I find a doctor that will do my surgery sooner than next JULY??

Hi All, I am living in Sacramento, California and have already been accepted by UC Davis Medical Center to have WLS. My only problem is that I am on SSI and my medical insurance is straight Medi Cal. UCD will only take two medi cal patients per month and there is a HUGE waiting list. I am on the list for July of 2001. I would like to know if I can simply go to another doctor (maybe in Fresno or Chico) and get the surgery any sooner? Has anyone on Medi cal had this surgery that can give me some insight?? July is SO far away and Fresno is only a few hours away. Any sugguestions are MUCH appreciated.    — janetlynne69 (posted on October 13, 2000)

I live in Burney.ca. 4 hours north of you, there is a guy here on ssi that is going to UCLA due to the wait for UC DAVIS, mind you i went to uc davis , Dr, Nyguyen is a talented surgeon, but i did`nt haft to wait. good luck.

I don't know if my doctor takes medi-cal, but it would be worth the call. Dr. Betcher, Fresno - 559-449-3040. Although he is a great surgeon. Has dry sense of humor and you have to get past his bedside manner(real blunt). I had been referred to HIGA in Fresno and it was going to take approx 4-6 months and my insurance approved immediatly. took only 3 weeks for betcher. Good Luck!
