Question:
Is odor/messy BM's controllable as a Distal and what do you eat ...
if you are avoiding fats, sugars and dairy products? I see that many distals rely on their suppliments and see food as recreational? Are you eating 3 meals a day? What is your typical meal? I am planning on having the Switch which is distal..I need to lose like 200 lbs to be at text book ideal weight...please shed some light on what the post op lifestyle is like. Feel free to email me...Thanks, jackie — Jackie S. (posted on October 9, 1999)

I am very distal and glad of it. I avoid milk & sugar to keep my weight
steady, not because they'll make me sick. The fact that they make me sick
only helps me steer clear. I do eat 3 meals a day, though I am supposed to
eat "5 to 6 mini-meals". I've never been a snacker, so it's
hard to remember to eat. But 5-6 meals is NOT grazing. BIG differnce.
Grazing defeats you mentally AND physically. I never drink with meals, for
the same reasons, in that it defeats your mind & body. I do not count
fats or carbs or calories, however. So, I do eat fries with my burger
(obviously not the whole of either) or chips with my tuna sandwich. I take
protein supplement 4-6 times a day and take my vites in 4 clusters also. I
don't mind this life at all. REALLY! Taking the supps & not counting
anything else has WORKED, compared to all the foods and substances I
avoided for so many years, only to go on gaining and gaining. But this life
is not for everyone. If you can't be faithful to your supps, choose another
procedure and keep a few lbs.
