Question:
Has anyone had Diffuse Esophageal Spasms result from RNY ?
I was wondering if anyone has had the diagnosis made of diffuse esophageal spasms after having a RNY? I haven't been able to eat solid foods now since surgery over a year ago. The stenosis was resolved in 23 endo procedures and now they are reporting that I have these spasms that do not allow the food to even enter my stomach. I have not had any luck with the nitrate drugs they have place me on and am wondering about other options. I have found that the only other option is a myotomy. If anyone could shed some light on this or offer some of the wonderful support I see spread around, that would lighten this for me. Thanks so much. — Jodi F. (posted on July 12, 1999)

Dear potential myotomy,
I have only began to look into having a lap-rny and so I can be of no help
but after reading about all of the problems you have had I could not help
but comment and make known my support for you. I live in a small town and
if having the surgery I am going to have to go quite a distance. (4-6 hours
drive) therefore I am most assuredly going to be bugging alot of people on
here for support. so I raise my glass to you (in future will be filled with
soymilk, etc.hahaha) in hopes that you shall be getting some recovery soon
for your associated problems. Take care and God bless. Denise
