Question:
Are there any Foundations that help pay for Gastric Bypass Surgery?
I am 5'4", 350+lbs, severely depressed with medical problems due to my weight. I am unemployed, on title19 (medicaid) They refuse to pay for this type of surgery because they consider it to be cosmetic, even if there is a health issue. If anyone can be of any help or know of any Foundations or persons that could help me please e-mail me at [email protected] — Machel D. (posted on June 9, 1999)

Medicare does pay for this surgery. It must be performed by a doctor and
then billed to Medicare. They do not deny payment. This surgery will cure
your disability, therefore it is absolutely necessary treatment in order to
rehabilitate you. There are many people who have had this paid by
Medicare. The trouble is in finding a doctor who will accept Medicare's
meager payment.
