Question:
Does insurance companies get irrated if you call them too much?
I have Aetna and my paperwork for approval was turned in 2 weeks ago. Of course according to Aetna they never received it till last week. Anyways I have been calling every day to see if they have approved. Has anyone had trouble with them because a person calls to much? — Deb S. (posted on December 15, 2004)

You will rarely get the same person twice on the phone. Large insurance
companies like Aetna have call centers and the phone calls are routed to
the next customer service rep who's available. Besides, you pay for your
insurance and they are providing a service to you as a consumer so if you
want to call in daily, do it!!!!!!!

I work for an insurance company - so a couple of hints. Yes, you can call
as often as you want. But, when you call, please remember to be as pleasant
as you can be, and use your manners. I can tell you from experience, people
who call us with a pleasant and cooperative attitude get a lot farther - we
really want to help them. When people call with "attitude", we
mostly just want to get rid of them and do as little as needed to rectify
whatever the problem is. I have a couple of members who call me that are
soooo nice, I will bend over backwards to get things taken care of for
them. (I have gotten things covered under our plan that normally wouldn't
be, but because I really like them, I go the extra mile. I am a case
manager, so my job is more complicated than our customer serve reps.) I
know that sounds harsh and unfair, but some of it is just human nature. If
you hook up with a customer service rep you seem to "click with"
ask for a name and then ask them if they mind if you call them to check on
the status of your paperwork. You can always ask to speak with a certain
customer service rep when you call, even if another one answers. Good luck!
