Question:
I changed insurance companies and now faced with denial. What do I do?
I had Cinga insurance before company switching insurance. Cigna declared that wls had to be medically necessary. After I had gathered all my info and had all the tests complete, my father (whom I am on his plan) switched jobs and insurance companies. Fortis Health does not cover any medical weightloss procedures at all. I found that out after I sent this in. My father switches jobs quite a bit in his professional field. Should I wait or try to fight Fortis? Any info would be helpful. — d_n_lear (posted on July 16, 2004)

Depending on how long he switched you usually have 30-60 days of coverage
with the old insurers. You can "fight" the new insurance
companies denial, but if they have an exclusion clause on their policy you
probably won't win. Ask for a copy of their exclusion clauses first, then
next time dad switches make sure you always get the new insurers
"exclusion clauses" before signing up esp. if you has a choice in
type of coverage i.e., HMO vs. PPO or more than 1 insurer choice.
