Question:
How can I stop losing weight

I can not believe I am asking this but in 14 months I have went from a size 24 to a size 2. I am eating more but I am still losing. I am doing water arobic exercises with weights only to tone and for bone density. I am 52 years old and this much weight loss is not looking good. I am drinking protein shakes about 4 times a week. I dump on anything with over 12 grams of sugar and I can not tolerate milk or anything with fat. Please help I don't want to gain my weight back but I have to stop losing! Sherry    — Sherry B. hi sherry- we are the same age and i am in a 2 also now- am having the same problem- have had no sugar at all in the year since my surgery and do not intend to start- what seems to help me is constant eating- if i have something healthy (including carbs and some fats) every couple of hours, i stay the same- the minute i have 3 squares i lose again- i still have a protein shake every morning and i feel good- i can't believe i am saying it either but i am downright skinny now (had a tt) and weigh 124 lbs at 5'5"- i don't want to lose anymore either- the terror of regain though practically paralyzes me with fear! i think the farther out we are the less we will have this problem so i think we should probably enjoy it while we can! good luck! janey

I've always heard to reverse the pouch rules. Drink with meals, graze, eat refined carbs (stuff made with white flour), etc. Good luck!

Just give it a few more months then you will be worried about gaining weight again. I was down the same road as yourself. I have regained about 8 pounds, 2 1/2 years post op. My doctor told me to expect to regai n 5% of your total loss and thats were we should level out at. This is right on the nose for me as I lost 180 pounds. Good luck

I almost 2.3 years post-op and I wear 00s and 0s in jeans and xs to small tops, that's down from a tight 26/28 and 3x tops,,, I am also 51 years old ,I eat 3 to 4 meals a day and snacks also, and I still lose weight, my weight fluctates back and forth from 105 to 110 pounds, I am 5'4 inches tall, I am very happy with my weight, I do keep a very close eye on my eating, I can't eat anything with sugar in it or anything high fat,, I look at it this way, I sure look a heck of alot better and feel 100% better then I did before my wls,, I would rather be a little too skinny then where I was pre-op anyday!!!!!!!

Sherry, you have to add calories to your daily intake to reverse or stop the weight loss. Apparently whatever amount you are taking in, along with your exercise program, its not enough to stop the weight loss. So, start adding a few hundred calories a day, and if still losing weight, just keep upping it until it finally takes. Reversing the pouch rules, such as drinking with meals is designed to empty the pouch quicker therefore you are hungry faster and can eat more. If you can stop the weight loss without going that route, I would suggest that, but if not, try it.

While I am not to the point where you are at, mu doc has prepared me for the possibility that I may have to eat to maintain a certain weight. I've have passed my 76% weight loss in the first six months, so he is of the opinion that I will most likely be a 100% or 100%+ loser...I can only hope! But he said that I may have to add to my caloric intake with something like a protein/milk shake, with some sugar free or no sugar added icecream, as I don't eat sugar. I also don't eat much in the way of carbs, and he said I may have to look into a bit of carb loading later on, to maintain. I would have never thought that doing something like that to maintain would ever be in my future!

I also went racing past goal til about 14 months post. Then the stabilization process started. Unlike everyone else, I would never tell you to TRY to stop the wt loss. Of course, 4 protein drinks/week isn't helpful, as you are donating much in muscle mass. You might go back to 2-3 a day, made with water, not milk. Then fat and sugar g would be very low, just high protein to stabilize. For some reason, it seems to work to gain, lose or maintain, depending on what you do with it and what you need. The problem is if YOU try to correct it AND your body tries to correct it, how do you stop the upswing where you'd like to? We can gain wt so very easily and as times passes, it becomes easier. This is your ONE CHANCE to be "too thin". Enjoy it, stabilize, rebuild the muscle you have lost and you will probably find yourself stable within the range you hoped.

I do have a suggestion. At Wal-Mart they sale De-Lite candy bars. They are sugar free. Try eating one a day. It may help gain weight. Also, Your profile has no pic's. I sure would like to see your before and after pic's..Thanks

Hi Sherry: I am also having trouble maintaining my weight. I have gone from a high of 260 pounds to a stable 109 pounds. I wear sizes 0-2. This hasn't been a problem for me. I have energy, feel good and my labs are ok. My only concerns were losing muscle mass and strength. Accordingkly, my protein intake averages around 90-110 grams per day, with the majority of protein coming from shakes.

Cont'd from previous post....(Please note the corrections. I accidentally hit the submit button before I reviewed my post.) I stopped the weight loss because I started looking haggard and ill. I'd lost so much body fat at one point that my pcp described my physical appearance as extremely gaunt. While my primary goal for weight loss was to regain my health, I certainly wanted to continue to look good too! At that point I took a good lood at my daily calorie intake. It was on average about 500-600 calories a day. I hadn't realized that I was taking in so few calories. My current intake of protein is atleast 90 grams per day and my fluid intake is atleast 100-150 oz liquid daily. But my calories now average around 700-800 calories a day. I added healthy fats (flax seed and/or olive oil)That seems to have slowed down the weight loss along with scaling back on the aerobics and increasing resistance and strength training.

You need to have 4-5 protein drinks a day to keep your muscles from loosing their tone. Try this web site: www.vitalady.com and read their question and answer pages. They have a great program going and are always willing to help out.
